1: Public Docks and Lunch Spots

Birches Resort

Boat over to The Birches Resort for lunch. Their dock is just north of Rockwood on the west side of the lake. The Birches Resort offers outdoor dining with a fantastic view of the water and Mount Kineo.

Kelly’s Landing

Dock at Kelly’s Landing in the West Cove for weekend brunch or a cold beer. A local staple, Kelly’s Landing is next door to the Greenville Junction Wharf’s lakeside playground for the kids to enjoy. Watch for the daily train to pass by!

Cafe Crepe

Heading into town to stretch your legs and do some shopping? Crafts Landing Park features free public docks that place you right in the heart of downtown. Seek out Cafe Crepe Food Truck to grab a warm, gooey french delight to enjoy on the boardwalk.

2: Island Adventures

Mount Kineo

Mount Kineo is the only Moosehead Pinnacle Pursuit trail to be found on an island. Complete the hike for 360 degree breathtaking views from the summit’s fire tower. Or play a round of golf alongside the beautiful historical homes on Cottage Row. The public boat dock can be found on the southwestern side of the island.

3: Just Cruisin’

Sugar & Deer Island

Loop around Sugar Island and Deer Island to catch a glance of Lily Bay State Park and Mount Kineo along with Big and Little Moose Public Lands. Take a moment to cut the engine and hear the Loons’ call.

4: Overnight Camping

The State of Maine’s Bureau of Parks and Lands has established about half a dozen primitive campsites on Sugar Island. They are available on a first come, first serve basis and feature a fire ring and picnic table – only accessible by boat.

5: Beaches

Pebble Beach and Donut Cove

Loop around Mount Kineo, pass its 800 foot cliffs, to quiet Pebble Beach. Pack a picnic and watch the kids enjoy the rope swing from the smooth stones.

Just past Sugar Island, on the east coast, is Donut Cove. This local spot is a popular way to spend the day hanging with friends. Head there early for your pick of shoreline and shade!
